How I work
New Paintings and New Year

Looking over 2008 I see that I only did 5 paintings! Well, 2008 was my year of technological upgrading. I moved everything over from PC to a 24 inch iMac. Actually two 24 inch iMacs, I got one for home and one for the studio. I re-did my website as mentioned in the previous post. This was much more dificult and time consuming than I had anticipated since I wasn’t content with any pre-existing templates. Website software keeps getting more and more user friendly and if I had it to do over again I would have waited 5 years for easier software. Lastly I upgraded my Photoshop skills with the help of online learning resources. This has been very rewarding and useful. I use photoshop now for color studies such as this:

And drawings such as this:

Because I can make changes and adjustments to various parts of the color studies and drawings independently, it makes the process much faster for me. For example on a color study I can try out several different backgrounds to see which I like best. That would take me hours to do by hand but minutes on the computer. I bought a Wacom tablet which allows me to draw and “paint” directly on the monitor with a pen like tool instead of using a mouse.

So there it is, I am now officially high tech. But I still do my final paintings the old fashion way so I still spend 80% of my time in the studio getting dirty with paints.
